VGA CAT5 Connection Module

This module is designed to interface with CAT5 KVM switches. It connects directly to the device’s CAT5 port without requiring additional adapters or configuration, simplifying the installation and deployment process. It also meets the signal transmission requirements for remote out-of-band management and local control of the device, aligning with the standards for efficient data center operations and maintenance. It can be deployed in bulk according to the actual number of devices required.

1 Product Overview

This CAT5 connection module (hereinafter referred to as the “module”) is specifically designed for various types of CAT5 KVM switches. Its primary function is to enable signal transmission and a stable connection between the KVM switch and server hosts. It is widely used in data centers, server rooms, server clusters, and other similar environments, and supports the host connectivity requirements of KVM switches with CAT5 interfaces. The module employs the standard CAT5 transmission protocol and incorporates signal amplification and anti-interference design to ensure high-definition, latency-free transmission of keyboard, mouse, and video signals. It provides reliable connectivity support for the entire lifecycle of KVM switch operations and maintenance, and is suitable for the complex operating environments of server rooms characterized by high temperatures and high levels of interference.

This module is designed to work with CAT5 KVM switches and can be directly connected to the device’s CAT5 port without requiring additional adaptation or configuration, simplifying the installation and deployment process. 2 Core Technical Specifications

2.1 Physical Parameters

• Interface Type: Standard RJ-45 connector (female), compatible with CAT5/CAT5e twisted-pair cable. The connector features gold-plating to enhance contact stability and resistance to oxidation, extend the module’s service life, and ensure long-term operation without contact issues.

• Appearance: Compact and space-saving, designed to fit within the wiring space of a standard 19-inch rack without occupying additional rack resources, facilitating dense deployment.

• Housing Material: Flame-retardant ABS engineering plastic with a UL94-V0 fire rating. It offers excellent insulation, dust resistance, and impact resistance, effectively adapting to the complex operating environment of data centers and reducing safety risks.

• Weight: Each module weighs ≤20g, making it easy to transport, install, and replace in bulk, thereby reducing the workload on O&M personnel and improving deployment and maintenance efficiency.

2.2 Electrical Specifications

• Operating Voltage: DC 5V ±0.5V, powered directly by the CAT5 KVM switch without the need for an additional power supply, simplifying the cabling process and reducing data center energy consumption and cabling complexity.

• Operating Current: ≤100 mA. With low power consumption, it does not increase the power load on the KVM switch or the data center as a whole, meeting energy-efficient operation and maintenance requirements.

• Signal Transmission Rate: Supports 100 Mbps, fully compliant with CAT5 cable transmission standards, and reliably meets the requirements for synchronous transmission of video, keyboard, and mouse signals without signal stuttering or delay.

• Insulation Resistance: ≥100 MΩ (DC 500 V). With excellent insulation performance, it effectively prevents electrical leakage and signal interference, ensuring the safety of both equipment and maintenance personnel.

• Dielectric Strength: AC 1000 V. With no breakdown or arcing for 1 minute, it can adapt to high-voltage power supply environments in server rooms, enhancing the module’s operational stability and reliability.

2.3 Transmission Performance

• Transmission Distance: Supports transmission over CAT5 cables (standard CAT5e) at distances of up to 150 meters, meeting the long-distance deployment requirements for servers and KVM switches in data center server rooms. Signals are transmitted without attenuation or distortion, making it suitable for cabling scenarios in large server rooms and server clusters.

• Supported Signal Types: Synchronously transmits video signals, keyboard signals (PS/2/USB compatible), and mouse signals (PS/2/USB compatible), enabling full-featured control of host computers via the KVM switch without the need for additional adapters.

• Video Signal Support: Supports HD resolutions up to 1920×1080@60Hz and is compatible with widescreen resolutions such as 1680×1050. It delivers 16-bit true color with no motion blur or stuttering, meeting the demands of high-definition monitoring and operation.

• Interference Resistance: Equipped with EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding and featuring a shielded twisted-pair cable design, it effectively resists electromagnetic interference from other devices in the server room, ensuring stable signal transmission and compliance with the GB/T 14714-2008 electromagnetic compatibility standard.

• Signal Compensation: Equipped with a built-in signal amplification and compensation chip, it automatically compensates for signal attenuation during long-distance transmission, ensuring stable signal quality within a 150-meter range. No additional signal amplifiers are required, reducing deployment costs.



3 Features

• High Adaptability: With a universal design, it is compatible with various CAT5 KVM switches and supports CAT5-interface KVM devices from leading brands on the market (such as Ruinan, Huawei, HP, etc.). Its high versatility allows for flexible adaptation to different operations and maintenance scenarios.

• Plug-and-Play: No driver installation is required. Simply connect one end of the module to the KVM switch’s CAT5 port and the other end to the server via a CAT5 cable. The module will function normally once powered on, simplifying the installation and deployment process and improving operational efficiency.

• Hot-swap Support: Supports hot-swap operations; the module can be inserted or removed at any time without powering down the KVM switch or server. This facilitates equipment maintenance and replacement without affecting normal server operation, enhancing data center operational flexibility.

• Status Indication: Built-in LED indicators (green steady: normal operation; red flashing: signal anomaly; off: no power/not connected), allowing for intuitive determination of the module’s operational status. This enables O&M personnel to quickly troubleshoot connection issues and shorten fault resolution time.

• Bulk Deployment: Supports bulk deployment with uniform module parameters, ensuring consistent signal transmission after deployment, reducing the complexity of bulk O&M, and accommodating scenarios where multiple KVM switches are deployed simultaneously.

• Safe and Reliable: Equipped with overcurrent and overvoltage protection features to effectively prevent damage to the module, KVM switch, and servers caused by voltage abnormalities or current overloads, ensuring safe equipment operation; the flame-retardant housing design reduces fire hazards in server rooms and complies with server room safety standards.

4 Compatibility Scope

• Compatible Devices: Various CAT5-interface KVM switches (supporting 32-port, 24-port, 16-port, and 8-port models)

5 Environmental Requirements

• Operating Temperature: 0°C to 50°C, suitable for standard data center operating temperatures; operates stably in high-temperature environments without performance degradation, meeting the requirements for 24-hour uninterrupted data center operation.

• Storage Temperature: -20°C to 60°C, facilitating equipment warehousing and transportation; no damage or performance changes occur during storage, allowing for long-term storage.

• Operating Humidity: 10%–80% RH (non-condensing), suitable for various humidity conditions in data centers, preventing moisture ingress and short circuits inside the modules, and ensuring equipment stability.

• Storage Humidity: 5%–90% RH (non-condensing), meeting long-term storage requirements, preventing module failures caused by humidity issues, and reducing storage-related losses.

• Operating Environment: Free of dust, corrosive gases, and severe vibration; complies with data center environmental standards; prevents external environmental damage to the modules and extends their service life.

6 Quality and Warranty

• Quality Standards: All modules undergo rigorous factory testing (including signal transmission tests, withstand voltage tests, electromagnetic interference tests, and visual inspections) with a 100% pass rate, ensuring stable performance and reliable quality for every module.

• Warranty Period: A 5-year original manufacturer’s warranty is provided. In the event of non-human-induced damage (such as performance failures, interface damage, or signal abnormalities) during the warranty period, free replacement or repair is available to ensure smooth operation and maintenance.

• Maintenance and Support Services: We provide 24/7 technical support. In the event of a malfunction during the warranty period, you may contact the manufacturer’s technical staff for on-site troubleshooting and resolution. We also offer a full range of services, including spare part replacement, repairs, and testing, to respond quickly to O&M needs.

7 Packaging and Labeling

7.1 Packaging Specifications

Single-module packaging: Individually packaged in an anti-static bag, containing one module.

7.2 Product Labeling

The module housing is labeled with the product name (CAT5 Connection Module), interface specifications (RJ-45), production batch number, production date, and manufacturer information. The labeling is clear and durable, facilitating product identification, traceability, and management, and complies with standardized management requirements for data center equipment.


8 Precautions

• During installation, ensure that the module interface is securely connected to the KVM switch and server interfaces to prevent signal interruptions or transmission anomalies caused by loose connections, which could affect normal equipment operation.

• When routing cables, avoid running CAT5 cables parallel to high-voltage power lines to prevent electromagnetic interference. The cable bending radius must be no less than 8 times the cable diameter to prevent damage or breakage and ensure transmission quality.

• Do not plug in or unplug cables while the module is powered on. If you need to do so, first turn off the power to the KVM switch and the server to prevent current surges from damaging the module and related equipment, thereby ensuring equipment safety.

• During routine maintenance, periodically check the status of the module’s LED indicators and the condition of the ports. Promptly clean dust from the module’s surface to prevent dust buildup from affecting heat dissipation and signal transmission, thereby extending the module’s service life.

• If the module malfunctions, do not disassemble or repair it yourself. Contact the manufacturer’s technical support for assistance to prevent the fault from escalating, which could affect the normal operation of the KVM switch and the server, and to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
